CAG's Report
As you know, many of the Border Worlds systems have been contaminated by the alien threat. Unknown organisms that are created from decomposing alien ships have been infecting anyone who comes into contact with them. At first glance it seems like another flesh-eating virus, but under the skin (literally, and metaphorically), it's a much more disturbing and disgusting sight. We are heading for the Tartarus system, a Border Worlds territory. In hopes of mending ties with the Union of Border Worlds, the brass up at Confed HQ have ordered us to eliminate and drive out the aliens from Tartarus. As of now the place has been free reign for the bugs, the entire system has been quarantined. We're going to put a stop to that. Currently, the aliens are using Tartarus as a staging ground, poking and prodding Confed space from their little base of operations. We are to break up this 'base' by any means. After we've cleared out the system, we are to continue pursing them and find out where they're coming from (again). A decontamination team will follow in once the bugs are gone, to see if we can restore the system. Too many entire systems are being quarantined by the bugs, and we're running out of room. The Confederation can only offer refuge to so many Border Worlders before it starts getting too crowded.
We don't know what exactly to expect. Intel suspects, by now, a large enough fleet has begun massing in the system. Orcas, Hydras, Leviathans, those new Marlin-classes. There's a very, very slim possibility we will run into any of their Shipkillers, or those enormous Dreadnoughts, and another Wormhole seems unlikely. While there is a big star in Tartarus, we are unsure if it's able to be harnessed like the one in Proxima was. It was giving off some odd readings a short while before the aliens showed up, but nothing substantial enough to warrant suspicions.
We will be updating the Integrated Combat Information System with new weapon and ship specifications. We hadn't updated our logs since the Kilrah incident, and given what's going on, we need to be as knowledgeable and ready as we can be. It will be updated with data we have gathered on the enemy's craft. Should be good information for both rookies and veterans alike.
The Initial Target Tracking System that has become a standard to all Confed ships is getting a slight upgrade, which we will be installing into our fighter complement in the next few days. There won't be any noticeable changes, as it's mostly internal fixes to it's design. If you encounter and glitches or problems, be sure to tell our Master Chief Petty Officer, Rachel Coriolis, or file a report for the mechanics to take a look at.
I would also like to welcome back some of Midway's finest; Lieutenant Commander Lance Casey, Lieutenant Maxwell Garrett, Lieutenant Jean Talvert, Major Karl Bowen, Major Terrence O'Hern, and Major Amber Elbereth. Their efforts in Proxima helped push back the alien threat once again, and we're happy to have them back on our roster.
Pleasantries aside, we have work to do, ladies and gentlemen.
Let's get to it, just as we've always have.
